Programming Course this Summer! This summer's offering of CSCE 105 "Introduction to Problem Solving with Computers" will have an emphasis on Bioinformatics and other Biological applications. The programming language being used is C, which leads very naturally to Perl in later courses. No programming experience is needed, though students should have a solid high school mathematics background. The instructor, Cory Strope, is completing his Ph.D. in Computer Science with an emphasis in Bioinformatics, and has extensive classroom experience in this course. Some sample problems that will be addressed in this course are: - Complementing a DNA sequence - Translation of the 6 open reading frames for a DNA sequence, and - Calculating the amino acid composition of a protein sequence Here are the particulars: Section Days Times Location Call Number Lecture 610 MTWRF 9:15-10:50 Avery 111 1586 Lab 611 MW 11:00-12:35 Avery 21 1587 Lab 612 TR 11:00-12:35 Avery 21 1588 Second Five Weeks, July 10 - August 10 For more information contact Cory Strope at cstrope@cse.unl.edu, Beadle N169, or Charles Riedesel at riedesel@cse.unl.edu Chuck Riedesel Chief Undergraduate Advisor Computer Science & Engineering 259 Avery Hall
